FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about ice hockey rules, equipment, skills and this website.

Does “hockey” on this site mean ice hockey?

Yes. The site is about hockey played on ice with skates and a puck. Field hockey, roller hockey and para ice hockey have their own equipment and rules, although some terms overlap.

Which rulebook does the site use?

The guides explain common concepts and use international language. No single rulebook governs every reader. Check the current rules for the specific league, tournament, country and age group.

Do you rank Bauer, CCM, Warrior or other brands?

No. The site explains fit, specifications and care. It does not publish product rankings or pretend to have tested equipment that was not tested.

How should a beginner choose skates?

Start with a trained fitter, try several shapes and focus on heel hold, width, volume, comfort and support. Ordinary shoe size is only a rough starting point.

What stick flex should a beginner use?

There is no universal number. Strength, height, technique, stick length and comfort matter, and cutting a stick changes its effective feel. A coach or fitter can help.

Are body checking rules universal?

No. Age, level, country and league determine whether body checking is allowed and how contact is penalized. Do not practise checking without qualified coaching.
